Sunday at the OIAF!

Hello readers,
This is the final day for the OIAF 2014! Let's begin on the final day! Today I had:

Disney made me Do It!
Motion Capture Workshop
The Little Mermaid
Aunt Hilda
Best of the festival

Let's Begin!
In the morning before the awesome motion capture workshop, there was an art exhibit going on in the arts court theater! It was called Disney made me do it! In this exhibit, there were paintings from a lot of cool Ottawa artists who sent in there Disney inspired art! This exhibit was really cool, so as a present for you guys, I made a mini Gallery walk video for you!

After that, I went to the motion capture workshop at arts court which was hosted by two universities which are Algonquin College and Carleton University. I would like to thank the professor of the BIT program, Chris Joslin, and all other people who were at that event, for picking me to be part of a motion capture! Thank you! :) Motion capture is the same technique of animation that they used for the Polar Express and Avatar. First you have to wear a black suit with a lot of Velcro on it. Then, the assistants will put on some white dots (Markers) on you're Velcro. Then they capture you're movements and then edit it on a different software.  If you want to see me move to make motion capture, watch the video below!

After that, I headed to Silver city to watch the movie The Little Mermaid! Before they played the movie, the actual directors gave a speech and then they played the short film feast again!
Then, they showed the movie! This movie was awesome on the big screen! You all have to see this movie on the big screen!

https://www.animationfestival.ca/index.php?option=com_oiaf&task=showevent&i=1159#1159
After that, I headed to the bytowne cinema, to watch my last movie at the OIAF, Aunt Hilda! This French animated movie which took 7 years to make, has a beautifully done animation, but a not very strong story nor characters. If you want to see my full review on the movie Aunt Hilda, click on the link below or click on the Monday Morning Movie Magic Icon on the right!

After that, I went to the final event at the OIAF, Best of the festival! There were only three that I liked out of all the short films that they played. Number one is a hilarious Russian animated short film called "We Can't live without Cosmos". This short film was not only funny, but also it has it's drama and suspense!
Mi ne mozhem zhit bez kosmosa
At number two at my list is a short film called 1000 Plateaus, which fun fact, it took 10 years to make! Also, the director made it in a car! So cool! :) This experimental animation was absolutely an artistic treat!
1000 Plateaus (2004-2014)

Then at number three, is an okay short called Marilyn Miller. A very well done short film but it doesn't have really a convincing plot. But one thing I love is the ending!
"Marilyn maketh, Marilyn taketh awayth"

Well, that's it for the OIAF! :( I HAD SO MUCH FUN! I'm David Cuevas reviewing the OIAF! Good bye animation festival!

Saturday at the OIAF!

Hello fellow readers,
This is day 4 out of 5 in the OIAF! Let's begin!
Today, I had Short Films for Kids Competion, Until Sbornia Do us Part, In Conversation with directors John Musker and Ron Clements, and the Awards Ceremony!

In the morning, I headed to the National Gallery of Art as a kids jury to see Short Films for kids completion! After that, we went to an meeting table and decided which short films to pick! My picks were at number 1 Anatole's little Sauce-Pan, at number 2 was Magic time, and at number 3 was Zebra!

This is me and the other kids jury trying to pick the winning short!

After that, I went to see the Brazilian animated flick that is in competition this year, Until Sbornia Do us Part! This movie was so funny! All the jokes worked so well and that's saying a lot! There was a funny part every single 2 minutes and they were all funny! Another thing that I liked about the movie was the animation. It was so cartoony and the movements of the characters made it even funnier the movie! If you want to see a full review of Sbornia,  click on the link below or click the Monday Morning Movie Magic Icon on the right of this blog!

After that, I headed to the In Conversation: With Directors John Musker and Ron Clements! The talk was so cool! Also did you know that Jim Carrey auditioned for the role of Prince Eric? You can find out more info at this link if you want to find out more info about this awesome event that I went to! http://www.cbc.ca/player/AudioMobile/All+in+a+Day/ID/2524070333/
After that, I got an Autograph and picture with the directors!!!!

After that, It was the Awards Ceremony at Saint Bridges! YAY! I was going to present an honorable mention for Anatole's little Sauce pan! Here is a video of me presenting the awards!

Friday at the OIAF!

Hello fellow readers,
Today is day 3 at the OIAF! Let's begin!!!!!
Today, I had Norman Mac Lauren Animated Musician, The Whoopee Party (Mickey Mouse short films organised by Jerry Beck), Canadian Showcase, Feast, and Seth's Dominion! Let's begin!

In the morning at the Art's court theater, they played a very interesting documentary called Norman Mac Lauren Animated Musician! It was about the great Canadian animator, who found out how to use techno music on a role of audio film! It talks about how he uses his technology in his animations and videos. I thought this documentary was very intriguing and it was hard to look away at. After that, there were an awesome Q and A session after the documentary with the actual director, Donald McWilliams and Luigi Allemano! After that, I got a picture with Donald and Luigi!

After that, I went straight to the National Gallery to see the Whoopee Party (Classic Disney Shorts Curated by Jerry Beck)! All the shorts were so lovable and enchanting and I loved Jerry's Pick! My favorite one that Jerry picked was the one about the three little boys who lived in a shoe that floating through outer space! Jerry Beck is an animated historian from California who I met at the OIAF and who presented this presentation! You can find his awesome blog here!

After that, I went to Canadian Show case where I saw many zany and unique Canadian professional films! My favorite's were Monsieur Pug (I met the director Janet Perlman!!!!) and Wackatdooo!'

After that, I went to Feast! Feast is the new Disney short film that will be coming out with big hero 6 in November! Patrick Osborne gave an awesome presentation about his epic short! Go see Big Hero 6 in November just to watch this short! It is very cute and the animation is spectacular! Feast was one big yummy delight!

https://www.animationfestival.ca/index.php?option=com_oiaf&task=showevent&i=1157#1157

Then, the final event of the day was Seth's Dominion! This awesome animated Documentary directed by Luc Chamberland was awesome and very interesting and most likely one of the best movies I've seen all year! Luc was very nice and I even go a picture with him!!!
Ironically, the music in the movie was composed by Luigi Allemano who I met early on today!
Before the movie Seth's Dominion started, they played the newest Pixar short film that will be released with Inside Out in 2015, Lava! The short film was cute and the song that goes with it is so Catchy! I still have the song in my head! :) Here's a sneak preview of the short!

After that, the director (James Murphy) of Lava had a mini Q and A session and he actually sang the song from the movie of the ukulele! It was so funny!!!! After Seth's Dominion ended, I got a picture with James!
Seth's Dominion was a charming and wonderful documentary! If you want to go see my review for Seth's Dominion go to the Monday Morning Movie Magic icon on the right or click on the link below!

Well, it was a fun day!

Thursday at the OIAF!

Hello readers,

I'm back from another great day from the OIAF!
Today, I went to six events which were Canadian Student Competion, Television Animation for kids Competion, The making of Dora the Explorer, Panel Pitch This!, TAC Television showcase, Cultural Academy, The history of present day Manga and Anime!

Let's start with the first event...

In the Canadian Student competion, there were many great and beautiful short films! My personal favorites were What is Art?, Leggo my Preggo (By , Le blanc, Pet, Unordinary Journey in an Ordinary day, Bobby, The hunt, Grounded, Wide Awake, and Lucy and the Limbs!

https://www.animationfestival.ca/index.php?option=com_oiaf&task=showevent&i=1077#1077

The second event was Television Animation for kids! My top favorites in that screening were A Town Called Panic: The Christmas Log because the stop motion was well dome and the plot is hilarious and Regular Show The Last Laserdisc Player because it's most likely one of the best episodes they done!

https://www.animationfestival.ca/index.php?option=com_oiaf&task=showevent&i=1074#1074

After that, I went to Chateau Laurier to see the making of Dora the Explorer! It was really cool and fun! As a treat, I will give you some info about the Event!

When they come up with an idea for an episode, the creators write down the story and turn it to a screenplay! After that, they make the script into a story book. That takes 3 weeks to make. After that, they go to a random kindergarten classroom, they read the story to the kids. If not half of the kids a listening, then they don’t go on with the episode. If yes, they go on to the next step, the story boards! When the artists are all done the story boards, they had them in to the directors and put it in like a mini movie. Then, they go to a completely new kindergarten class room, and the mini sketch of the movie. Again, with not all the classroom kids are watching the screen, they either need to edit it, or restart from a different story! When the kids like the mini movie, they go on the final thing. The final product. They bring the movie to a completely new kindergarten classroom. If the kids like it, it’s sent to Nick JR! I just a few of the kids like it, then they do a few minor adjustment to make it better and they do step 3 again!

Back to the OIAF, I also got a picture of Me and the creator of Dora the Explorer!

https://www.animationfestival.ca/index.php?option=com_oiaf&task=showevent&i=1165#1165

Let's go to the next event, the TAC Panel Pitch This! Let me explain what Panel Pitch This is.... Before the event happened (like a few days ago), the TAC manager (Azarin Sohrabkhani) Gave me some info about two different shows that they are going to present in the panel. What I have to do, is take down notes of the two show and write down why I like them and what should be improved! The two shows are Wire Stories (Directed by Jonathan Ostos Yaber) and Beastly Bards (Directed by Hector Herrera and Pazit Cahlon)!

Then, I go to the event where I and another kid, came along with to critic the two shows. But before that happened,  the two (Or three) creators came along and gave a little info about there show. Then after that me and the other kids said what we like about the show and what should be improved. Then after that, other panelist from Nickelodeon told about there thoughts about the two shows. And that's how the pitch was! It was so much fun! I have actually and picture with both creators of the two shoes!

Before I can continue on the next event, I would like to say Thank you to Azarin Sohrabkhani for inviting me to this event! Thank you! :)

After that I had, Cultural Alchemy: The history of Present day Manga and Anime! This event felt like a fun history lesson in a university! In this event, they showed really cool painting and comics such as the history of Astro Boy! It was cool and very intellectual!
